Gerard eyes new Barca deal

Gerard insists he is still hopeful of signing a new contract with Barcelona.

Barcelona star Gerard insists he is still hopeful of signing a new contract with the Catalan titans.

The 26-year-old's current deal - amongst the most lucrative at the club - expires in the summer and he has yet to be offered a new one.

Although he has not been a regular under Frank Rijkaard this term, he has proved an important member of Barca's first-team squad as they close on the Primera title.

The former Valencia star is keeping his fingers crossed that he will ultimately be granted an extension to stay at Camp Nou, but is not fazed by the prospect of seeking pastures new if need be.

"My hopes are to finish the year with a title and to be able to renew my contract," he stated.

"But if that's not the case, then I have only just turned 26 and have already had to move once before and it won't finish me in football.

"Nobody from the club (Barca) has called me and I don't know anything."
