Barcelona have extended their lead in La Liga to ten points after a 4-0 victory at Sevilla.

After a goalless first half, the Catalan club broke the match wide open at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, with second half goals from Samuel Eto'o, a Julio Baptista own-goal, Ronaldinho and Ludovic Giuly.

The first half saw Eto'o test Sevilla goalkeeper Esteban with an early strike while Silvinho and Ronaldinho forced clearances off Sevilla's goal line with their efforts.

The home side looked dangerous themselves in the opening 45 minutes, with new signing Adriano and Antonito forcing saves from Barca goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

Ronaldinho then missed two quality chances just before the break, with his second a spectacular overhead kick at the far post that flew over the bar from Juliano Belletti's cross from the right.

Sevilla would have fancied their chances after half time, but Barca put a dent in their hopes by taking the lead through Eto'o three minutes after the break.

They doubled their lead in comical circumstances when a corner from the left saw Baptista head into his own net on 56 minutes.

Ronaldinho then made it three on 59 minutes with a fine right foot finish from Eto'o's byline pass before Frenchman Giuly completed the rout with a strike from the right with 17 minutes remaining.

The result puts pressure on Real Madrid to get a result at struggling Numancia on Sunday.

In the early match on Saturday, Atletico Madrid came from a goal down to earn a 3-1 victory over struggling Albacete at the Vicente Calderon.

The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes through Javier Francisco before Atletico pulled level through Fernando Torres nine minutes later.

Ariel Ibagaza gave the home side the lead before the half hour mark and Pablo Ibanez made sure of the points with a third a minute before the break.

The result takes Atletico level on points with eighth place Athletic Bilbao while Albacete are just above the bottom three on goal difference.
