Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has dismissed speculation linking the European champions with a summer bid for Edgar Davids.

The volatile Dutchman has proved a pivotal player in Barcelona's renaissance this season, having signed on loan from Juventus earlier this year, and the Milan chief believes the tough tackler will stay in La Liga for the foreseeable future.

''I think it won't be easy to buy the Dutch player from Barcelona,'' conceded Berlusconi.

''He is doing really good things there. It is highly unlikely that they will allow him to leave.''

Although Berlusconi insists that there will not be a plethora of new arrivals at Giuseppe Meazza in the summer, he did concede that the Serie A leaders would be pursuing a central defender, reportedly Lazio's Jaap Stam.

''At Milan there will not be important arrivals, with the exception of one in defence,'' continued Berlusconi.

''Balance needs to exist and to pause for a year is not always a bad thing.''
