Espanyol star Jordi Cruyff feels that Arsene Wenger or Sven Goran Eriksson are the type of manager who will bring success back to Barcelona.

The former Manchester United midfielder believes that Barca erred in the summer by appointing Frank Rijkaard, and insists a more experienced man is needed at the helm at Camp Nou.

Speaking on a Spanish television programme, Cruyff stated: "I don't want to interfere in their matters, or attach blame to anyone, but for me the ideal coach for Barca would be between Arsene Wenger and Sven Goran Eriksson.

"Someone who has a lot of experience, who really knows about Barcelona and Spanish football.

"Wenger and Eriksson are great managers and their experience is extensive."

The one-time Barca player went on to defend his father Johan, claiming that stories suggesting he 'interfered' in the decision-making process at the Catalan giants were untrue.

"My father is not interfering at Barca as some people like to say.

"He is the first person to hope that things go well for them, but he only advises them if they ask him; he does not take any decisions. I know this for obvious reasons."

Cruyff also revealed his personal hurt at Espanyol's reluctance to complete his transfer at the start of the season.

It has emerged that certain parties at Estadi Montjuic were unconvinced about bringing him in from Alaves, and only proceeded with the transfer after lengthy internal discussions.

"Espanyol seriously doubted signing me, at the last moment they called a meeting," he explained.

"Over my name there were doubts. I still carry the pain from that, but I'm trying to overcome it by giving everything I have for the club."
