MALLORCA have emerged as possible candidates to take Barcelona misfit Juan Roman Riquelme on loan.

The Argentine schemer has been informed he does not feature in Frank Rijkaard's first-team plans at Camp Nou this term, though Barca president Joan Laporta insisted that Riquelme still had a future at the Catalan club 'in the medium term'.

Barca are keen for Riquelme to find a European, and ideally Spanish, outfit to spend next term on loan with to continue his adaptation to the European game after a disappointing first season.

It is believed PSG were offered the 25-year-old but declined the opportunity, though Mallorca now seem to have shown an interest.

It is thought any deal for Riquelme would be reliant on Ariel Ibagaza completing his move from The Islanders to Atletico Madrid as Mallorca would then need a creative midfielder.
