RIVALDO has played down rumours linking him with a move away from Barcelona, stating that he will only leave if the club want to sell him.

The samba star is currently back in Brazil enjoying a well earned rest, having stated he will not appear in the Copa America.

Speaking on his website, Rivaldo said: "With regards to all these reports claiming I am going to leave, I want to make it clear that my intention is to stay at Barcelona and I will only leave if the president publicly says he wants to sell me.

"It has to be remembered that my only agent is the company CSR, (owned by Rivaldo and Deportivo midfielder Cesar Sampaiao) and right now it does not have my permission to negotiate any deal regarding my future."

Recently media reports had claimed Lazio were closing in on the former world footballer of the year.

In fact some newspapers in Italy were even speculating that he had already signed for the Rome-based side.

However, Rivaldo hit back, saying: "Once again, I want to insist that despite being so far away from Barcelona, my only objective is to finish my contract with them."

Another rumour coming from Italy is that Barca had offered Marc Overmars in exchange for Inter keeper Sebastian Frey.

Il Messaggero, the Italian newspaper, claimed that Barca had turned to Frey after pulling out of the deal for Francesco Toldo.

Whilst it seems likely that the club will sign a keeper soon, it would appear that the swapping of Overmars is highly unlikely.
