SCOLARI RECALLS RIVALDO

FELIPE SCOLARI has recalled European-based stars Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos to the Brazil squad.

Scolari was named as the successor to Emerson Leao, who parted company with the federation on Monday, and he has wasted on time in recalling the players his predecessor dropped for allegedly lacklustre displays.

Brazil travel to Montevideo for a crucial World Cup qualifier with Uruguay on July 1, and Scolari is aware of the importance of the task ahead.

It's an uncomfortable situation for us," said Scolari. "The Uruguay game is crucial."

Scolari defended the European-based players, who have been the subject of much criticism in the past.

They have given their contributions in the past," he said. "We can't hold just them responsible for our current problems. We are not in this situation just because of a few players."
