Cristiano Ronaldo Galatasaray v Real Madrid September 17th
With Real Madrid already 5-1 up and Ronaldo on two goals in the match, the Portuguese superstar left his best until last. Ronaldo picked up the ball on the edge of the box via a Karim Benzema pass, and tormented Roberto Mancini's back four by producing a trademark stepover to get into the box, sliding past three players and then smashing an effort inside the far post from close range.
Taking on a weary Galatasaray side, Ronaldo celebrated his new contract in style and proved to the world, if they didn't already know, just why he earns a reported £14.2m a year.
Di Maria 4-0 FC Copenhagen October 2nd
Di Maria took advantage of a visibly jaded Copenhagen team by scoring another impressive Real goal. At 2-0, the Danes knew any hope of grabbing an unlikely result at the Bernabeu was fading, prompting the former Benfica winger to burst into life. Despite Ragnar Sigurdsson's attempts to show Di Maria onto his weaker foot, the Argentine used his blistering pace to open up a clear sight on goal on his favoured left foot. An emphatic finish never looked in doubt, and Di Maria fired in a strike of pure precision into the bottom left corner. The winger capped off a man-of-the-match performance with a second goal in stoppage time, with the rest of Europe casting an envious eye over Real's ferocious left wing.
Gareth Bale 2-2 Juventus November 5th
The world's most expensive player opened up his Champions League account with the type of goal that Spurs fans had grown accustomed to.
After a long punt forward from left-back Marcelo, Ronaldo brought down the ball with supreme control and darted towards the goal, with everyone anticipating a typical piledriver to follow. Rather unselfishly though, the former Manchester United man picked out Bale, whose close control left marker Kwadwo Asamoah spinning in all directions. The Ghanaian failed to close down Bale's advances, with the Welshman firing home an unstoppable effort into the bottom right corner, extending his tally to four goals for Los Blancos.

With Ronaldo out injured, Real needed another talisman to lead the team and Bale duly delivered. Ronaldo is usually the set-piece taker, so his absence freed up the chance for the Welshman's first Champions League free-kick. A three-man Galatasaray wall, including Didier Drogba, could only watch on as Bale effortlessly dipped in a 30-yard strike just under goalkeeper Eray Iscan's crossbar. It set Real on their way to an impressive 4-1 victory over the Turkish giants, despite playing over an hour of the game with ten men, after Sergio Ramos' 17th red card in a Real shirt.
Luka Modric FC Copenhagen December 10th
From one former Spurs player to another, Luka Modric scored his first goal of the season in sensational style. After picking up the ball on the edge of the box, the Croatian dodged Claudemir's challenge with a superbly executed Cruyff-turn and curled in a wonderful right-footed shot from 20 yards to put Real 1-0 up, leaving goalkeeper Johan Wiland with absolutely no chance.
Modric's manager, Carlo Ancelotti, is often reserved in his goal celebrations. However, after witnessing his side's opening goal the Italian promptly applauded his midfielder, showing just how impressive a goal it was.
