Sevilla and Real Betis are making huge efforts to end the violence that has blighted their rivalry in recent years, says skysports' Graham Hunter.

Three years after the last derby, one of Spanish football's fiercest rivalries returned on Saturday with the match at Estadio Benito Villamarin ending 1-1. And Hunter took a closer look the new-look Real Betis, who are hoping to overhaul the image of their local rivalry.

"It's a match in recent season scarred by real violent acts," Hunter said. "But the two clubs have got together to try to end that trend and Real Betis isn't just undergoing a face lift, they are trying to get back in touch with their original personality and who knows may be even win a trophy."

Real Betis president Miguel Guillen said: "It's our responsibility as the head of the clubs to show how it should be. This is football, this is a passion we all have in Seville.

"We want to leave the previous years when there was too much violence. This should be a very big sports party for the people of Seville."

Betis striker Roque Santa Cruz, on loan from Manchester City, believes the club's fanatical support makes it one of the best teams to play for. "It's a kind of religion for the people," he told Revista.

"They are so passionate and they love their players and they love their club. It's amazing the love they have for the club. It is really enjoyable to walk in and listen to them singing the hymns of Betis. It's a really incredible feeling."
