Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema's season at club level is over after the La Liga side confirmed on Thursday that he had torn a thigh muscle in his right leg.
French international Benzema hobbled off after an hour of Madrid's 4-1 win at Espanyol last weekend, but Los Blancos' meeting with Getafe on Sunday was rendered meaningless as Barcelona sealed the La Liga title with victory at Atletico Madrid.
"The player has been diagnosed with a (muscle) tear," the club said, without stating how long he is expected to be sidelined for.
The 27-year-old is also a major doubt for two friendlies for France, against Belgium on June 7 and Albania six days later.
