Athletic Bilbao won their fourth league match in a row as they beat Celta Vigo 2-1 on the road thanks to goals from Aritz Aduriz and Mikel San Jose.

Aduriz broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 17th minute and then went close to doubling the advantage as he headed against the bar.

The visitors did make it 2-0 shortly afterwards as San Jose finished from close range.

Joaquin Larrivey pulled a goal back for Celta in the 64th minute but Athletic held on despite having San Jose sent off late on for a second booking.

Rayo Vallecano took another step towards securing Primera Division survival by coming from behind to beat struggling Granada 3-1 at home.

Jhon Cordoba gave the visitors the lead in the eighth minute but after periods of sustained pressure Alberto Bueno levelled for Rayo midway through the second half and 10 minutes later put them ahead, before substitute Adrian Embarba scored a third in stoppage time.

This was a third consecutive home win for Rayo, who move up to 11th position in the table and 10 points ahead of 19th-placed Granada.
