Valencia manager Nuno Santo believes his side can challenge Barcelona in the years to come if the current crop of players grow together.
Santo has led Valencia to fourth place in La Liga after a fine season to date, winning 16 of his 26 matches in charge and sitting eight points off leaders Barca.
They finished a disappointing eighth last season, but Santo has reinvigorated the 2004 champions and is relishing the job ahead.
Speaking exclusively to Revista de La Liga, Santo said: “I will describe Valencia as an ambition to grow, a desire to win, it is incredible. That’s what I found and what I also hope to bring from myself.
“If the culture of the club develops this way the players stay, next year they will know each other, routines will be more simple to introduce.
“I think we could [challenge Barcelona]. It’s not always about money in football, that’s why I love the game, we can win, and we have this idea we can win all of their matches. I’m not afraid.”
Santo arrived in Valencia after a successful spell at Portuguese side Rio Ave, accompanied by 28-year-old Scottish assistant manager Ian Cathro.
They have won six of their last eight in the league and earned a vital point at champions Atletico Madrid on Sunday evening.
Champions League qualification will be the initial priority, but Santo wants to fight for the title in years to come.
He said: “We will be there, to fight [for the league].
“The history says that we have the tools to win. People realise we are a big club and we must be in the Champions League.
“This is pressure, but it is obligation for us as coaches.”
