Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has insisted that he does not compete with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Argentina international and Real Madrid attacker Ronaldo are widely recognised as the two best players in the world, having claimed the last six Ballon d’Or awards between them.

Both Messi and Ronaldo have started the 2014/15 campaign in good form, but the 27-year-old insists that there is no personal rivalry between him and the Portuguese.

"Competing with Cristiano?" he told reporters. "I don't feel like competing with him or anyone else. It's not about individual awards; I want to help my team."
