Lionel Messi scored twice as Barcelona beat Getafe 2-0 at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez to reach the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey with a 6-0 aggregate victory.

Messi made his comeback from injury in the first leg at the Nou Camp last week and marked the occasion by scoring twice.

And he repeated the trick on Thursday night, tucking in the opener in the 44th minute following a run and cross by Cristian Tello down the left flank.

If his first goal was predatory, then his second was sheer class; the talismanic Argentinian evading four challenges before rounding Jordi Codina and firing home left-footed.

Messi, who lost his crown as the world's best player to Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in the week, missed a gilt-edged chance to secure his hat-trick with five minutes to go, but was thwarted by Codina's excellent reactions when through one-on-one.

The one negative on Barcelona's night was a rather serious looking injury to Brazil star Neymar, who went over on his ankle just before half-time and was forced off.

In the earlier game, Real Sociedad booked their place in the last eight with a 1-0 win (1-0 on aggregate) win at Villarreal.

The decisive goal came in the 32nd minute when Javier Ros prodded home from close range with a scrappy finish.

In the quarter-finals, Barcelona will take on Levante, Real Sociedad face Racing Santander, Espanyol tackle Real Madrid, while holders Atletico Madrid face Atheltic Bilbao.
