Real Betis midfielder Xavi Torres is likely to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on an Achilles injury.
Torres tore his right Achilles tendon during his side's goalless draw in Thursday's Europa League clash with HNK Rijeka.
The 27-year-old was carried off the pitch with the injury during the second half and replaced with Ruben Castro by already-qualified Betis.
Torres went under the knife on Friday morning after spending the night in hospital and is expected to be sidelined for up to five months.
"He was making a big effort and this is the bad news of the night," said Betis manger Juan Carlos Garrido.
"It is another problem to overcome; we must be united in these situations. We must help Xavi Torres as much as possible."
