Atletico Madrid kept pace with Barcelona at the top of La Liga after a last-gasp victory at Real Sociedad, while Espanyol claimed a first win of the season.

The prolific Radamel Falcao scored a last-minute winner as Atletico made it seven wins from eight games following a 1-0 success at Sociedad.

Espanyol moved off the foot of the table after substitute Christian Stuani's first goal for the club secured a thrilling 3-2 home win over Rayo Vallecano.

Leo capitalised on a mistake to put Vallecano in front on 11 minutes before Joan Verdu, whose sloppy pass had led to the opening goal, struck the post for Espanyol midway through the first half.

Verdu then drew the hosts level on 37 minutes before giving Espanyol the lead three minutes after half-time.

Vallecano replied through Leo's second goal of the game on 63 minutes, but the away side then had Mikel Labaka sent off five minutes later.

Diego Colotto was dismissed nine minutes from time for a second yellow card for Espanyol, who pinched a first win of the campaign thanks to Stuani's goal in the second minute of stoppage-time.

Osasuna slipped to the bottom of the standings after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by Real Betis.

Michel fired home a cracking 87th minute goal as Levante snatched a 1-0 win away at Getafe following a tight encounter.

Real Zaragoza moved above Granada in the table after a solid first-half showing secured a 2-1 away win.

Helder Postiga scored after just three minutes for Zaragoza and the visitors doubled the lead on 27 minutes through Victor Rodriguez.

Granada's evening got worse when Irinej was dismissed for a second bookable offence on 72 minutes before Youssef El Arabi notched a consolation five minutes later.
