Gonzalo Higuain is hoping Real Madrid can wrap up a deal for Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric and insists he will not be heading in the opposite direction as part of the transfer.
Spurs were able to keep Modric out of the clutches of a rival last summer, as Chelsea made several attempts to prise him away from White Hart Lane, but reports claim he is destined to be on his way during the current window.
Primera Liga champions Real Madrid and French giants Paris St Germain have expressed an interest in the Croatia international, with the side from the Spanish capital believed to be leading the chase.
Those inside the Santiago Bernabeu hope reports of an imminent agreement prove to be correct, with Higuain admitting that he would welcome the opportunity to play in the same team as Modric's creative influence.
"I saw Modric at Euro 2012 and also at Tottenham," the Argentine striker told
as.com.
"He is a player that the club likes and so do we. I hope it can be wrapped up as soon as possible as that would be best for the team."
Excited
It has been suggested that Higuain could form part of the deal that takes Modric to Spain, but the 24-year-old insists he will be going nowhere this summer and has been quick to point out that a signed shirt presented to him during the club's title-winning celebrations was not a parting gift.
Higuain added: "I do not regret anything I have done here. I can fulfil my ambitions here and win titles, hopefully this year we will be champions again.
"This year I am able to start work at the beginning of pre-season and I'm really looking forward to it. I feel strong.
"I hope this season is as good as or even better than last year, and that we achieve our individual and collective objectives. I'm as excited as the first day I arrived here.
"I'm well aware of the club I'm at and who I play with. I'm relaxed. The shirt my team-mates gave me at the end of the campaign was not a farewell gift, I asked them to sign it as a memento.
"The affection my team-mates and the fans had for me gave me strength to stay on."
