Schalke deny interest in Guti

Schalke's director of sport Horst Heldt has dismissed rumours that his club are planning a bid for the former Spain international Guti.

Former Real Madrid pair will not be linking up

Schalke's director of sport Horst Heldt has dismissed rumours that his club are planning a bid for the former Spain international Guti. The 35-year-old Guti is a free agent after his contract at Besiktas was terminated in November and As newspaper in Spain had reported that he was holding talks with the Gelsenkirchen-based club. But Heldt has been quick to rubbish the claims and is insistent there is no foundation to the story. "It is not true, there is nothing in it," he told Germany's Sport1 television. "Guti was a great player, but he is not an issue for us." The presence of long-time team-mate Raul at Schalke appeared to add weight to the story - the two men spent 15 seasons playing alongside each other at Real Madrid. However, Heldt added: "Just because As writes some rubbish, does not mean that it has to be true."
