PSV Eindhoven coach Fred Rutten fears Ibrahim Afellay could leave the club during the January transfer window.
Afellay's contract expires at the end of the season and the highly-rated winger saw his stock rise further with a brace in Holland's 4-1 victory over Sweden in last week's Euro 2012 qualifier.
Dutch giants PSV are holding talks regarding an extension to Afellay's contract, but Rutten is unsure what the future holds.
"Speculation has grown after Ibrahim's performance with the national team against Sweden," Rutten told De Telegraaf.
"It would be hard for us if he would leave, but in football economic aspects will also play a role."
The 24-year-old was wanted by several clubs during the summer and had claimed there was interest from the likes of Hamburg and Everton.
Atletico Madrid are now keen on the wide man, according to Afellay's agent, and reports claim the player could be tempted by a move to Spain.
