Espanyol have confirmed that Javi Marquez will miss the remainder of the season after breaking his leg.
The midfielder suffered the knock during a 2-0 victory over Sevilla on 20th March.
An unfortunate collision with team-mate Ivan Alonso saw Marquez come off worse.
The club's medical staff have since confirmed that the 23-year-old has fractured his fibula and will play no further part in the 2009/10 campaign.
The news comes as a major blow to Marquez, as he had been able to force his way into the first-team fold on a regular basis this term.
His absence will also be keenly felt by coach Mauricio Pochettino, who must now do without the services of one of his most creative talents.
Early indications suggest Marquez will be laid low for at least two months, but will be raring to go by the time pre-season training resumes in late summer.
