Reports in Spain suggest Espanyol are set to finalise a deal for Deportivo La Coruna's Julian De Guzman, while they also want to sign Guglielmo Stendardo on loan from Juventus.
Espanyol are still in a state of shock following the death of Daniel Jarque earlier this month but are now trying to find some level of normality as the start of the new season approaches.
De Guzman is understood to be on his way to the Barcelona-based club, while talks over whether Lola Smiljanic stays or is put up for sale will be decided on Friday.
An experienced central defender is a priority and Espanyol have now turned to Stendardo, according to Sport, after seeing various other targets ruled out.
Real Madrid do not want Ezequiel Garay to go out on loan, while Boca Juniors will not sell Juan Forlin.
Stendardo is expected to be approached about a loan deal that could be made permanent next summer.
A left winger is also something that coach Mauricio Pochettino wants, but no potential targets have yet been named by the Catalan press.
