Udinese have confirmed Real Madrid are interested in signing Gaetano D'Agostino.

Big-spending Real are believed to have turned their attentions to D'Agostino after being frustrated in their pursuit of Liverpool's Xabi Alonso.

Juventus were strongly linked with a move for D'Agostino earlier this summer, but they could not agree a fee with Udinese.

Real could now steal in to lure the Italian international to El Santiago Bernabeu with Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo confirming talks are taking place between both clubs.

"I confirm that they (Real) are interested," said Pozzo. "My son was set to meet them yesterday but he was unable to so we postponed everything until next week.

Open negotiation

"The buy-out clause of the player remains the same, 25million euros, but there's always room to reason.

"There are players they have that could interest us. It's an open negotiation."

D'Agostino admits it would be a dream to join Real

"It's the dream of any player to play at Real Madrid," D'Agostino told Onda Cero. "They have a spectacular team.

"That is why I'm nervous and excited. I thank Real for their interest, I am happy, but there's nothing official just yet.

"At this moment I prefer for my agent to speak, because I'm busy with Udinese's pre-season training."
