Real Madrid defender Christoph Metzelder has criticised the club for offering £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 29-year-old believes that offering this sort of money just 'isn't correct' given the current global economic climate.
Ronaldo is expected to complete his move to the Bernabeu next week and although the Portuguese winger would have expected rough treatment from opposing defenders in Spain, he would surely not expect it of future team-mates.
However it does not seem that Madrid's spending is finished there. After coughing up £56million for Kaka and bidding for Ronaldo, Real could complete a deal to bring in David Villa for £40million in the near future.
"I don't know much about this evolution and I'm worried about it," Metzelder told The Sun.
"Spending $96million on someone that can get injured or be in bad form isn't correct to me, especially during this period of financial uncertainty."
