While Wright-Phillips and Euell's contracts will not be extended
Southampton boss Mark Wotte has started trimming his relegated squad after showing Rudi Skacel, Ryan Smith and Romain Gasmi the St Mary's exit.
The Saints have dropped into League One following a 10-point deduction for breaking Football League insolvency rules and Wotte has wasted little time in making changes to his playing staff.
Skacel, Smith and Gasmi have left the club, but Wotte has been encouraged by the attitude of the remaining members of his team.
He told the club's
official website: "We spoke with everyone and almost all the players were very determined to stay and fight to get Saints back into the Championship as quickly as possible.
Contract
"Even players who are linked with other clubs told me they would prefer to play for Saints than sit on the bench for a big club, but of course you never know what's going to happen if someone comes in with an offer.
"However, we will not be extending Ryan Smith's contract, Romain Gasmi has returned to France now that his loan has finished and Rudi Skacel has also been released."
Wotte has also told Bradley Wright-Phillips and Jason Euell that he will be unable to extend their contracts.
"We have told Bradley Wright-Phillips and Jason Euell that we cannot extend their contracts because of the situation that we're in, but if that changes then we will consider offering them a deal but on totally different wages than they are on now," he said.
Davis stay
"We will keep an open line with them but it will be a completely different contract and they agreed that was fair enough.
"In the meantime though they are out of contract so are able to sign for other clubs."
But Wotte admits goalkeeper Kelvin Davis will be the first player to be offered a new deal when the club have a more secure financial future.
"Kelvin Davis said he wanted to wait until the last possible day before moving on elsewhere if he receives another offer and expressed again that he wanted to stay," added the Dutchman.
"I also told him again that he is very important to us and that he will be the first person to be offered a new contract as soon as there is someone in a position to do so and we have secured a better future for the club."
