Portsmouth boss eyes reinforcements

Tony Adams has admitted he is eager to bring in a number of new faces during the transfer window. Lassana Diarra and Jermain Defoe have both left Portsmouth in big-money transfers and Adams accepts he is short of players in key positions. He does not expect there to be any more departures but still wants to bolster his midfield and sign one new forward Adams told Sky Sports News: "I'd like some reinforcements. It would be silly to get rid of any more. At the moment there are no offers (for Portsmouth players)." Adams has asked executive chairman Peter Storrie to make five signings but he is not sure how many new players will actually arrive.

Obvious

"It may be six or seven or it may be one or two," he said. "I need some reinforcements "I think it is obvious which areas. I've got no midfield players at the club, only (Arnold) Mvuemba who is a kid. "We've let a centre-forward go to Tottenham. We have David Nugent and Kanu but we'd like four. "It would be great if we could get another one in that department." Pompey have been linked with several midfielders including Newcastle's Joey Barton and Valencia duo Edu and Manuel Fernandes. Adams played alongside Edu at Arsenal and knows Fernandes well from his time on loan at Fratton Park in 2006.
Speculation
Asked about the pair, Adams stated that he admired both players but refused to say whether he was looking to sign them. "He (Edu) is a good player. He scored at the weekend," said Adams. "Manuel is playing well for Valencia at the moment and did well for us a couple of seasons ago." Adams also dismissed speculation linking Manchester City forward Benjani Mwaruwari with a return to Portsmouth. Asked if there was any truth in the rumours, Adams replied: "No." Questioned further about whether Benjani would be coming in, Adams added: "I don't know. Not at this moment, not today."
