Espanyol stopper upsets supporters after incident with fan

Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni has upset the club's supporters after he had to be separated from a fan at the club's training ground. Kameni, whose contract at the club expires at the end of the season, has been strongly linked with a move away causing fans to criticise the number one. The Cameroon international became incensed when a fan taunted him during a training session. The 24-year-old reacted and had to be separated by team-mates. Afterwards the stopper admitted he immediately regretted the incident. "I regret what happened. I know I should have ignored those words," he told the club's official website. "I neither wanted, nor tried to, attack anyone or create any kind of problem with my behaviour but it was very hard for me to hear certain comments while I was training. "I always give my all in training and matches. I am very self-critical and that meant I did not accept the comment I heard because it upset me a lot, both because of my personal situation and that of the team." Some Espanyol supporters have called for the keeper to be handed the harshest possible punishment and stated that he did not deserve to wear the Espanyol shirt.
