Barcelona midfielder Xavi is keen to be offered a new contract that shows his worth to the team.
The Spain international, player of the tournament at Euro 2008, has been in negotiations over an extension for some time.
Discussions have not been running smoothly and reports suggest that while Xavi wants to commit himself to the club until 2014, Barca have only offered a deal spanning until 2013.
Xavi also believes he should be given a lucrative contract similar to the other big earners at Camp Nou.
Agent Ivan Corretja has held talks with sport director Txiki Beguiristain and has told the Spanish press that Xavi should be at 'a level that shows his role to the team'.
It is understood that Barcelona are determined to keep Xavi, despite reported interest from elsewhere.
