Talks not running smoothly

Xavi's agent has revealed further talks are planned with Barcelona as they try to thrash out a new deal for the midfielder. Contract talks have stalled with both parties so far unable to agree terms on a new deal. Barca are keen to tie down the Euro 2008 winner to a long-term deal at Camp Nou with the midfield schemer having 18 months to run on his current contract. Xavi is holding out for a deal on a par with the club's top earners, but Barca have so far refused to meet his demands. The news has alerted a number of clubs across Europe to Xavi's possible availability, with Manchester United credited with an interest in the 28-year-old. Xavi's representative Ivan Corretja has admitted talks are not running smoothly, but that further discussions are expected soon. "Next week I expect a new meeting with sport director Txiki Beguiristain," said Corretja. "We wait on news but the deal is not imminent because there exists too many differences between the two parties. "It is not easy to close an accord at this moment."
