Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona midfielder Xavi is close to agreeing a new deal with the club.
The Catalan giants are keen to resolve the Spain international's future in order to fend off interest from a host of Europe's top sides.
Sporting director Txiki Beguiristain is believed to have been in contact with the 28-year-old's agent Ivan Orretja, although the two parties remain some way off an agreement.
However, Orretja admits he remains hopeful of reaching a compromise.
"Things are progressing positively," he said.
Xavi has previously stated his desire to remain at Camp Nou, having progressed through the academy ranks at his boyhood idols.
He is not the only Barca star currently waiting on a new deal, though, with Sergio Busquets, Carles Puyol, Rafael Marquez and Samuel Eto'o all set to be approached over the coming weeks.
