Winger facing prolonged spell on the sidelines

Real Betis have been stung by the news that Mark Gonzalez is facing more than three months on the sidelines. The winger sustained an injury while on international duty in midweek and is expected to be out of action for some time. He was stretchered off and rushed to hospital during Chile's historic victory over Argentina on Wednesday following a collision with Nicolas Burdisso. Betis confirmed on Friday that the 24-year-old has suffered a blow to the head and twisted knee ligaments.

Sprain

"The worst news has arrived from Chile," read a statement on the club's official website. "Doctor Carlos Montes has confirmed to Real Betis' medical staff that Mark Gonzalez suffered a third degree sprain in the inside ligament of his right knee. "With this injury and with the expectation of seeing the player up close in Sevilla, the recovery time is estimated at three months. "The club has already sent Mark all our support to face this difficult situation."
