Turkish striker suffers further thigh problem

Villarreal striker Nihat Kahveci is facing another spell on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury. The Turkey international had only recently returned to the fold after making a comeback from a similar knock picked up at Euro 2008. He required three months of rehabilitation following surgery to rectify that problem, but is hopeful that a further operation will not be required. Early indications suggest the forward will be out for up to six weeks, ruling him out of key Primera Liga and UEFA Champions League fixtures. "Nihat complained of soreness during the league game at (Sporting) Gijon on 27th September," explained Villarreal's chief medical officer Juan Albors. "He needs rest and unfortunately will be sidelined for between four and six weeks, during which time we will try various forms of physio to speed up his recovery. "If none of these work, we can't rule out the possibility of an operation."
