Robert Pires believes Santi Cazorla's development will be better served at Villarreal.
The Spain international was the subject of a summer approach from Real Madrid, but spurned the opportunity to move to the reigning Primera Liga champions.
The 23-year-old insisted he was happy with the Yellow Submarines and had no need to accept a new challenge elsewhere.
The youngster is regarded as one of Europe's hottest properties but his French team-mate Pires is adamant all his ambitions can be achieved at El Madrigal.
"Cazorla has made a good decision," the World Cup-winning midfielder told L'Equipe.
"I can see him improving everyday in the normal atmosphere we have here.
"But next June Real will not be alone in their attempts to sign him, I expect Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester to come knocking."
