Former Newcastle United winger Albert Luque is on the verge of signing for Primera Liga outfit Malaga.
The forward failed to settle during a disappointing two-year spell on Tyneside, moving on to Dutch giants Ajax in 2007.
However, he was released by incoming boss Marco van Basten over the summer as the former Holland coach could not guarantee the 30-year-old regular playing time.
Malaga then came in with an offer to take him back to his homeland and Luque is excited by the prospect of rejoining a club he previously represented in the 1999/00 season.
Motivated
"I received several offers from both Spanish and foreign clubs, but my first option has always been Malaga," he told
Marca.
"I'm very motivated to play in the Spanish league again, I'm glad and want to do things right.
"At first I had a meeting with Van Basten, who told me I was part of his plans, but I injured myself during pre-season and was out for 15 days; that made him change his mind.
"Then we had another meeting to speak about me leaving the team and looking for a way out.
"I want to bounce back to my best level, the one I had when I played in Spain. Both the club and myself made efforts and I'm hopeful we are going to experience a good year."
