Defender ruled out for six months with knee injury

Barcelona defender Gabriel Milito has been ruled out of action for six months with a knee injury. The Argentina international injured the anterior cruciate ligament in the UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg loss at Manchester United last Tuesday. A statement from the club's official website read: "He will undergo arthroscopic surgery to resolve the problem next week, after which time it will be clearer how long he will be out of action. It will be around six months." The 27-year-old, who joined Barca from Real Zaragoza on a four-year deal last summer, tore the same ligament in 2001. Frank Rijkaard must now rethink his defensive plans ahead of the Primera Division run-in, with his side currently third with three games left to play.
