Silvio Berlusconi has revealed that he does not believe Milan 'really need' Ronaldinho.
The Brazilian playmaker is expected to leave Barcelona this summer and Milan have been considered favourites to sign him for some time.
They have not yet been able to agree a fee with Barca and president Berlusconi has now admitted that he has always had reservations.
"I have been doubtful over his signing, but now I am even less convinced that Milan really need Ronaldinho," Berlusconi told Sky Italia.
Vice president Adriano Galliani has also hinted that Milan could be about to turn their attentions elsewehere.
Ronaldinho has endured a difficult season at Camp Nou, while Galliani has every faith in Milan's current crop of forwards.
"There is no doubt that with (Filippo) Inzaghi who feels good, we have a really strong attack, with Kaka too," said Galliani.
"For the way in which the team is playing, this could allow us to change our ideas. Kaka and Inzaghi feel really good together."
