Albelda to leave Mestalla

Valencia's new sporting director has confirmed that the club are considering Unai Emery and Marcelino to take over as coach and that David Albelda will be leaving in the summer. Los Ché's former striker, Juan Sanchez, has been appointed by the new board after the mass clear-out last week and he has already begun to create a plan of action for next season. After the exit of Ronald Koeman, speculation has been rife about who will come in and Emery and Marcelino have both been strongly linked in the media, but nobody has yet to put pen to paper on a deal. "Marcelino and Emery are great coaches and it is fair to say that they fit the profile we want, yes," Sanchez told AS.

"But no, there is nothing signed. There are talks, but we are not close to agreeing anything with anyone. We have a clear profile of the person that we want though. "When Valencia have won titles in the past it has been with methodical coaches, team psychologists and a lot of tactical work." Sanchez then reflected on the decision by the previous regime to isolate Albelda, Santi Canizares and Miguel Angel Angulo, admitting it was hard on his friends. "We have a great relationship, it is true," he continued. "What happened in December to the three of them surprised me a lot because they are great professionals and I know that what happened badly affected them. "In Albelda's case, it was really shocking. He is such an important player, who grew up here and has won everything with the club. He deserves to leave in a dignified manner." Finally, Sanchez revealed that the new trainer will not have the same funds as were on offer at the start of the season "It is obvious that we have an expensive wage bill and that not everyone will stay. We can also not invest in players every year the same amount as we did last summer;" he concluded.
