Barcelona have entered the race to sign highly-rated Racing Santander defender Ezequiel Garay.
The 21-year-old is said to be a target of Manchester United, Liverpool and Lyon, while Tottenham reportedly bid for the Argentine international in the past week.
However, it is now understood that Barcelona president Joan Laporta has met with his Racing counterpart Francisco Pernia to discuss a possible move.
Garay is under contract with Racing until 2010 and it is expected that a bid in the region of 20million euros (£14.8m) will be required to prise the Argentine away from El Sardinero.
The centre-back joined Racing in 2006 and since that time has made 38 appearances and has scored nine goals.
