Milan have confirmed their interest in Barcelona defender Gianluca Zambrotta.
The Rossoneri have been linked with a January move for the former Juventus ace, but while they have now lodged their interested with the Spanish giants - they do not expect to sign him this month.
Milan have been informed by Barcelona that Zambrotta will not be departing Camp Nou in January, although there might be a deal to be done in the summer.
"Last week at the Uefa meeting I officially told Barcelona officials of Milan's interest in Zambrotta," stated Milan's chief officer Adriano Galliani.
"Barca president Joan Laporta told me we will speak again in a couple of month, but from now until June he'll remain at Barcelona."
Milan are keen to bolster their backline with legend Paolo Maldini set to retire this summer following a lengthy and illustrious career.
