Massimo Moratti claims that Inter are close to agreeing a deal for Atletico Madrid's Maniche.

Deal for Portuguese midfielder almost sealed

Massimo Moratti claims that Internazionale are close to agreeing a deal for Atletico Madrid's Maniche. The club president has confirmed that negotiations with the Portuguese midfielder are ongoing and that the player is expected to sign next week. Maniche, who joined Atletico in 2006, is understood to be in Milan to undergo a medical despite denials during the last week from his Spanish club that any deal is imminent. Inter are currently seven points clear at the top of Serie A and a move for Maniche has been brought about by injuries to key players.

Strong squad

"We are concluding the final details, but the deal is practically done," Moratti said. "The decision to move for Maniche was made after a meeting with the coach Roberto Mancini. "We are happy with the strength within the squad, but with Walter Samuel getting injured we have been forced to enter the transfer market."
