Spaniards claim no offers for defender

Espanyol have warned Tottenham off making a move for highly-rated defender Dani Jarque. Reports over the weekend suggested new Spurs boss Juande Ramos was lining up a move for the 24-year-old central defender. Ramos is thought to be a big admirer of Jarque and even tried to sign him during his time in charge of Sevilla. Tottenham's new boss is thought to have made defensive reinforcements his top priority in the January transfer window and Jarque is rumoured to be among his top targets. Espanyol are aware of interest in Jarque, but are adamant that they do not want to sell the player.

Interest

"We have not received any offers for Jarque, but it is certain that we know of interest from some clubs in the player," an Espanyol spokesman told skysports.com. "Now he is an important member of our team and we are not interested in his sale." Jarque was remaining coy on the speculation and insists he is concentrating on life at Espanyol. "I only know of this news through the press because I have not spoken to anyone about the subject," said Jarque. "My club has not said anything to me and now my objective is to triumph at Espanyol. "It is normal that I desire to progress like any player, but I prefer to speak about this question if propositions really arrive."
