Quotes of the week

Fernandez is happy with what he has seen from his squad during the pre-season, but he now wants Zaragoza to move on to another level.

Zaragoza finished sixth in the Spanish top-flight last season, but Fernandez is eyeing an even better campaign this year.

"We are an excellent team," Fernandez told the Spanish media. "I am very satisfied with the quality of my men.

"The main success in this Zaragoza team is the talent of the players, but now I demand other things like effort and sacrifice.

"We are capable of going very far this campaign."

Fernandez is also confident the addition of Roberto Ayala will prove vital during the season.

Ayala joined Villarreal from Valencia at the end of last season, but the centre-back sensationally bought out his own contract without playing a game at El Madrigal so that he could join Zaragoza.

"The incorporation of Ayala to the club will bring much experience to our defence," Fernandez added.

"It is so important to obtain equilibrium in the defensive line, Roberto possesses many years' experience in La Liga.

"It is necessary to fight for the maximum from the first day."
