Defender hoping Marseille can find top gear

Souleymane Diawara admits reigning champions Marseille have been well short of their best this term. Didier Deschamps' side are currently third in the Ligue 1 standings, but know they should be leading the way. A slow start to the season saw them win just one of their opening five fixtures, seeing them drop off the early pace. Since then they have won four of their last five and have every intention of defending their top-flight crown. Diawara, though, believes there is still plenty more to come from Marseille this season and hopes they will hit top gear in Sunday's date with Paris St Germain.

Levels

"We have rarely played good football so far," the commanding centre-half told L'Equipe. "We have been winning anyway over recent weeks, though, so the bad start has been forgotten. "On Sunday we will go to Paris looking to win. It is out of the question that we will lose this game. "We have only been at 70 or 80 per cent so far. If we can be 100 per cent, Marseille will be a very good side. "We have not been at our best so far but if we can reach that level we could be even better than we were last season."
