Coupe de la Ligue: Laurent Blanc insists PSG cup victory was all that mattered

Laurent Blanc insisted victory was all that mattered after his Paris Saint-Germain side halted a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 Coupe de la Ligue comeback victory against Ajaccio on Wednesday.

The cup holders, who were defeated by Barcelona and Guingamp last week, fell behind against the Ligue 2 outfit when Johan Cavalli opened the scoring for the Corsican side in the 27th minute from the penalty spot.

However, Edinson Cavani equalised after the break before late goals form Serge Aurier and Jean-Christophe Bahebeck wrapped up victory to set up a quarter-final encounter against Ligue 1 rivals St Etienne.

Victory might not have been convincing, but Blanc was pleased his side returned to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.

"In the cup, you have to win," the former France boss told www.ligue1.com

"It wasn't easy to come here after two defeats. But I think the boys, in spite of a below-par first half, were able to react and win 3-1.

"It's a good evening, even if in the first half we had a few problems, but we're happy to have qualified.

"That's what counts most in the cup."

The three other Coupe de la Ligue quarter-finals see Bastia play Rennes, Monaco tackle Guingamp and Lille face Nantes.

PSG are back in Ligue 1 action on Saturday when they take on Montpellier at the Parc des Princes before the two-week winter break.
