France star Yohan Cabaye has thanked Claude Makelele for helping him progress as a player.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has worked closely with Makelele since his arrival at the Parc des Princes in January from Newcastle United.

And Cabaye feels that he is already benefiting from the former Real Madrid and Chelsea star as he becomes more of a defensive midfielder.

“I have been lucky to see Claude Makelele very regularly at PSG and he has given me several pieces of advice," he told L'Equipe.

"He told me for players of our size, it is about the movement, anticipate a lot, and always run. I like that position as defensive midfielder."

Cabaye also admitted that he loves learning from team-mate Thiago Motta and Andrea Pirlo.

"My role-model? In the club, I have Thiago Motta. I also like to watch at Andrea Pirlo. He is a very intelligent player," he continued.

"He won’t tackle everywhere and make a lot of fouls, but he is intelligent in his position. He will also find amazing passes. He can score and assist.”
