PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti has played down speculation linking Mamadou Sakho with a possible exit from the club.

The French international defender was sent off in the 1-1 draw with Montpellier on November 11 and did not feature again until Tuesday's 4-0 win at Valenciennes, when he came on as a substitute.

Speculation has been rife about his future but Ancelotti insists Sakho is an important player in his squad as he bids for Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League glory.

Ancelotti said: "The most important thing is Sakho is training well and being fit. He has greatly improved since last season.

"Sakho is not in a position to ask to leave. He will stay here because he is an important player."

"Sakho is not in a position to ask to leave. He will stay here because he is an important player.

"He can't completely understand the coach's decisions (to leave him out of the side) but that is logical."
