PSG coach Antoine Kombouare insists Javier Pastore needed resting ahead of Thursday's clash with Red Bull Salzburg.
The Argentine playmaker was a notable absentee from their Europa League match-day squad for the game in Austria.
Pastore's performances have not been up to his usual high standard recently, prompting Kombouare into action.
The club's tactician insists that Pastore's omission is not any sort of punishment, stating he only needed a break.
"I have left Pastore to rest because he has been less good for a few weeks," he told the club's official website.
"He needs to recuperate with a specific programme. But it is not a sanction at all."
