Hannover have signed defender Salif Sane from French side Nancy for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old central defender has signed a contract until 2017 with the Bundesliga side, who narrowly missed out on a place in Europe next season, and becomes their first signing for the 2013-14 season. He is also their first acquisition since Dirk Dufner became director of sport.
"Salif is a young, ambitious player with plenty of potential," said Dufner.
"We are very pleased that we have been able to sign a very strong tackler for our defence, and to have tied him down to us on a long-term deal."
Sane has made a total of 70 appearances in the French top flight for both Nancy and his previous club Bordeaux.
"We had been striving to strengthen our defence for next season and Salif Sane has impressed in one of Europe's strongest leagues," said coach Mirko Slomka.
"He has everything that is required to establish himself as an important member of our team in the Bundesliga."
