Nancy striker Dagui Bakari is set to quit football because of a heart complaint.

The 31-year-old has been told he has an enlarged heart.

Bakari has only played once for Nancy since joining them in the summer from Lens because of the condition.

The Ivory Coast international, who had a trial with Wigan before joining Nancy, could play again later this month - but he fears he could collapse on the pitch in the same manner as Marc-Vivien Foe.

"The cardiologist was very clear - my heart is too muscly," said Bakari.

"Because of my efforts my heart is twice as big as a normal heart.

"I don't want to play. I think I will stop my career in the coming days.

"At Nancy, when I came to the hotel after I heard the news, I sat in a corner.

"Marc-Vivien Foe's image lying on the Gerland grass was haunting me.

"You have to listen to the doctors and listen to yourself, and I don't want to put my life in danger.

"I will tell you: I was lucky. At Lens, I didn't play a lot, and it was luck as the problem was not discovered.

"The verdict is clear, I could have fallen and never got up again."
