PSG and Montpellier refusing to give an inch in title chase

Paris St Germain remain in pole position to take the Ligue 1 title, with another victory on Sunday keeping them top of the table. Montpellier are the closest challengers to the capital giants, sitting one point off the pace, while Rennes continue to close on the UEFA Champions League places. Kevin Gameiro scored a 90th-minute winner to sink Dijon 2-1 and keep Paris St Germain on course for a first title in 18 years. The visitors suffered a blow in the 41st minute when Mohamed Sissoko was shown a somewhat harsh straight red card for a bad challenge on Eric Bautheac. Going down to 10 men did not seem to do them any harm, though, with Siaka Tiene putting them ahead in the 49th minute. Guillaume Hoarau received the ball on the left of the area, beat Chaher Zarour and picked out Tiene to score at the far post. Dijon equalised in the 76th minute as Gael Kakuta's corner perfectly picked out the unmarked Steven Paulle at the far post and the defender scored from close range. PSG snatched all three points at the death as a counter-attack saw Menez pick out Gameiro, who brought the ball under control and beat the onrushing Baptiste Reynet to boost his side's title bid.

Bossed

Montpellier ensured that they remain within touching distance of the summit with a workmanlike 3-0 victory over Caen. The high-flying hosts bossed proceedings at Stade de la Mosson, with the only surprise being that it took them so long to break the deadlock and wrap up the win. There were 51 minutes on the clock by the time they edged themselves in front. Karim Ait-Fana was awarded far too much space and he crashed home from close range. Montpellier continued to dominate proceedings thereafter, but had to wait until seven minutes from time before doubling their advantage. Substitute Souleymane Camara helped to end any hope Caen had of finding a route back into the game when he drilled low into the bottom corner. The seal was then put on a comfortable night's work in stoppage-time when Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was felled in the box and Olivier Giroud made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Deserved
Yacine Brahimi's long-range equaliser earned Rennes a well-deserved 1-1 against Auxerre, which leaves them to fifth in Ligue 1. Dennis Oliech's early goal gave relegation-threatened Auxerre the lead, which they held for nearly an hour despite mounting pressure. But Brahimi levelled matters after his side had hit the woodwork, had a goal disallowed and been kept at bay by keeper Olivier Sorin - though Auxerre were unfortunate to be denied a late penalty. Kenya international Oliech put the visitors in front in the 10th minute, finishing superbly across keeper Benoit Costil after John Boye's error had let him in. The offside flag denied Mevlut Erding a 53rd-minute equaliser as he followed up after Olivier Sorin fumbled Vincent Pajot's drive. If that was a warning shot for Sorin, though, the keeper failed to heed it and was again culpable as Brahimi let fly from 25 yards in the 66th minute and found the net.
