Montpellier missed the chance to pull clear at the top of the table, while Marseille left it late to pick up another three points.

Elsewhere, there were wins on Saturday for Lyon, Brest, Nancy, St Etienne and Nice.

Montpellier remain at the Ligue 1 summit, but they lead by only a point after being held 1-1 by Toulouse.

Geoffrey Dernis fired the league leaders in front after seven minutes, but Cheikh M'Bengue levelled matters five minutes before half-time.

Toulouse were able to hang on for a point, but ended the game with 10 men after seeing Franck Tabanov dismissed three minutes from time.

Lyon moved into third place after picking up a fourth straight win - with Evian seen off 2-1 at Stade Gerland.

Jimmy Briand had the hosts in front on 35 minutes, but Yannick Sagbo restored parity two minutes before the interval.

Lisandro Lopez restored Lyon's lead on 70 minutes, before tempers boiled over.

Clement Grenier lasted just five minutes on the field, having entered the game as a substitute, before he was sent off, and Fabrie Ehret followed him down the tunnel in stoppage-time.

Marseille are still playing catch-up but added another three points to their tally this weekend after securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Lorient.

Innocent Emeghara appeared to have handed the visitors, who saw Lamie Kone sent off in the first half, all three points at Stade Velodrome when he struck on 77 minutes.

Marseille stole the points, though, as Mathieu Valbuena (84) and Benoit Cheyrou (90) turned the tie on its head.

Crucial

St Etienne also netted a crucial goal in stoppage-time as they piled pressure on out-of-sorts Dijon.

Florent Sinama Pongolle put them in front on 16 minutes and Max Gradel looked to have settled matters in the closing stages.

St Etienne were forced to see out a few nervy moments towards the end, though, as Eric Bartheac also scored in time added on.

Nancy clambered out of the drop zone with a 2-1 win on the road at Caen.

Loosemy Kasaboue (3) and Salif Sane (56) put them in complete control, ensuring that a penalty from Benjamin Nivet on the hour mark was little more than a consolation for the hosts.

Nice remain inside the drop zone but are only a point from safety after seeing off Valenciennes 2-0.

Anthony Mounier (69 & 90) bagged a match-winning brace for Rene Marsiglia's side.

Brest overcame Auxerre 1-0 in a match which saw the visitors reduced to 10 men.

Bruno Grougi grabbed the only goal of the game from the spot on 34 minutes, while Kamel Chafni was given his marching orders 10 minutes into the second half.
